Commissioned by the Health Foundation, the Institute of Health Equity is working on an analysis of health inequalities in England and update of the Marmot Review to be published in February 2020, on the 10-year anniversary of the Marmot Review.To mark one year since the publication of 'Fair Society Healthy Lives', the Marmot Review Team and the London Health Observatory produced baseline figures for some key indicators of the social determinants of health, health outcomes and social inequality that correspond, as closely as is currently possible, to the indicators proposed in Fair Society, Healthy Lives.Reports outlined since the 1980’s the extent of which ill-health and death are unequally distributed among UK: The Black Report (1980), Health Divide (1988), The Acheson Report (1998), The Solid Facts, WHO (2003), The Marmot review (2010).
Researchers have documented inequalities in the distribution of health by social class, gender, and ethnicity. Inequalities in health have been measured using many different outcomes including infant deaths, mortality rates, morbidity, disability, and life expectancy.Sir Michael Marmot was commissioned by the secretary of state in November 2008 to propose cost effective strategies to reduce health inequalities. The Fair society, healthy lives report found that: there were wide variations in life expectancy between areas people in poorer neighbourhoods.
